1199SEIU represents nearly 100,000 hospital workers at over one hundred academic medical centers, hospitals and satellite facilities in New York City and its Long Island and northern suburbs, and throughout New York State, Massachusetts, Maryland and in Washington D.C.

Our members range from Registered Nurses and other professional and technical employees, e.g. social workers, physician assistants, pharmacists, radiologists, physical therapists, etc. to clerical, service and maintenance workers. In many facilities, our Union includes all non-management or administrative employees.

In New York City, Long Island and the Hudson Valley, our hospital-based members are organized in our Union according to Health Systems. Outside of metropolitan New York, our hospital-based members are grouped geographically (Upstate, Capital Region, Massachusetts, Maryland/DC), together with nursing home, homecare and other healthcare workers. In addition, we have a separate Registered Nurse Division for our 15,000-plus RNs, most of whom are based in hospitals and medical centers.
